National brain injury strategy gets first reading in the House of Commons
On June 10, 2025, Bill C-206, National Strategy on Brain Injuries Act, passed first reading in the Canadian House of Commons.
The private members’ bill was introduced by Member of Parliament Gord Johns from the riding of Courtenay–Alberni in British Columbia.
The bill calls for the federal Minister of Health to develop a national strategy to support and improve awareness, prevention, and treatment of brain injury, as well as the rehabilitation and recovery of those living with brain injury. This work must be completed in consultation with provincial governments, Indigenous groups, and other relevant stakeholders.
The initiative is being led by Brain Injury Canada and supported by Parachute.

The Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) is a series of online educational modules and resources addressing concussion recognition, diagnosis, treatment, and management. Good concussion management is pivotal to minimizing the risk of brain damage and may reduce long-term health consequences.
CATT is a product of the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit, located on the unceded land of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.
