Are you supporting someone who is a survivor of intimate partner violence?
Did you know that nearly half (44%) of women in Canada will experience intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lifetime? And of those women, an overwhelming majority may suffer a brain injury as a result of the violence?

Homepage of the SOAR website.
Physical and emotional trauma among IPV survivors, and lack of education and awareness among frontline service providers can cause brain injuries to go undiagnosed and untreated. Supporting Survivors of Abuse and Brain Injury through Research (SOAR) is a registered charity that addresses brain injury caused by intimate partner violence (IPV-BI). Founded in 2016, SOAR is the only organization in Canada solely focused on this issue.
SOAR explores the intersection of intimate partner violence and brain injury, educates frontline workers and members of the general public to recognize and respond, and empowers survivors to access the care and support they need to thrive.
In 2020, the CATT team partnered with SOAR to create an eLearning course to provide information and resources for family members and workers who are supporting survivors of IPV who have sustained a brain injury.

The Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT) is a series of online educational modules and resources addressing concussion recognition, diagnosis, treatment, and management. Good concussion management is pivotal to minimizing the risk of brain damage and may reduce long-term health consequences.
CATT is a product of the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit, located on the unceded land of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.
