Managing an Athlete with a Concussion

By November 15, 2017August 19th, 2020No Comments

A concussion is a brain injury and can at times be difficult to manage. The long-term health of an athlete who has sustained a concussion is dependent on a management team of coaches, referees, other athletes, school staff, physicians, and family (parent/partner/caregiver). As a coach you have an important role in recognizing and responding if an athlete has had a hit to the head or blow to the body resulting in acceleration/deceleration or rotation of the head. You also play an important role as a concussed athlete works through the Return to Sport stages.

If you suspect an athlete has a concussion, check for Red Flag symptoms immediately and review the steps on our Concussion Pathway.
